Heart Hanging

Afternoon everyone, I hope you are all having a nice crafty weekend ?
I wanted to share with a little something I have been working on for my craft room wall.
As I mentioned on another of my posts, my friend Shary got me some chipboard bits when she went to a recent craft show, well amonst what she got me was some beautiful Hearts, As soon as i saw them I knew I wanted to decorate one for my wall. And here is it….
Now the lovely Lisa from That Craft Place has launched her own range of stamps called Ditzie Designs…they are great and you must head over and have a look. The sentiment on this is from Lisa’s range, I didn’t want to stamp straight onto the heart as I wanted a certain “look”, so what Did was put the sentiment onto tissue paper and then using watered down PVA I applied a layer onto the heart and VERY carefully applied the tissue paper, gently using a soft brush I applied a layer of PVA over the tissue paper.
I love the effect this technique gives.

This photo (hopefully) shows the different layers, this has 3 layers of paint, starting with pink, then gren and then white. I then sanded back revealing mainly the green, but picking the pink out in certain areas.
I then went over the main part of the heart (only a tiny bit in the middle) with my distress inks & stains.
The gold around the edges is Creative Expressions Gilding wax…..this stuff is fantastic and i recommend it to everyone to try.
You can just see to the right of the picture the text stamp that I used, I stamped using Versamark and then brushed over it with olive green Mica powder. I also used a pink pearl mica powder and brushed that over the rest of the heart to give it a nice sheen and a blush of colour.

And of course i had to add some frantage didn’t I 🙂

This one shows the sentiment better and also the effect you get with the tissue paper effect. You can also see in this picture the pink & green layers.

Well I hope you like my little heart, don’t forget to head over to That Craft Place to check out the rest of the range.

Pick me up book

Morning everyone, a non design team post from me this morning…I really need to start doing more of these !
I have been working on a pick me up book….called so because it is going to be filled with pictures of everyone & everything I love, and also some of my favorite inspirational quotes & sayings.

Those that know me, know i LOVE all things vintage and distressed, so this seemed like a perfect “theme”.
The pages of the book & the cover are all made from kraft card, The tags are all made with Papermilldirects hammered card. I also mind the spine with this, and then using Copics, distress inks & waxes I coloured the spine to give it a leather look.
The main image was watercolour card coloured with distress inks and then spritzed over with some water, once dry I took one of Sheena Douglass’s stamps from her A little bit sketchy range I stamped in Tea Dye Distress ink & then “painted” using bronze mica powder….this picture doesn’t show the mice too well !
I then added some frantage & brands.
The sentiment stamp is from LOTV Dreamy Days Circular sentiment stamps which my dear friend Marilyn got me for my birthday, for a pick me up book the sentiment seemed perfect ! I stamped in Versamark and then brushed gold Mica over the top.
I then added a kraft rose (tattered florals style svg file), a resin rose, Tim Holtz Pin, Mini peg and mounted them all on some net.
I am really happy with how it turned out, and will start filling it up today 🙂 I will get some inside photos once I start putting some pictures & quotes in there.
Have a lovely crafting day x

That Craft Place Sentiment Challenge

Morning all, I can’t believe how quick time is flying !
It is new challenge time over at That Craft Place, the theme being Sentiment.
I have two design team cards to share with you this week…
My first card I made using my Distress Inks & Mica Powders, this is such a easy technique, but so effective.
I have used one Of Sheila Douglass’s Stamp sets, and after creating the back ground with the distress inks, I overstamped the image, and stamped the sentiment all using versamark, and then dusted over the top using my Mica powders.
Now my second card features a FAB new stamp, the lovely lisa from That Craft Place has launched her own range of stamps…they are fantastic ! She even has a red rubber range for those that prefer them.
I have used my Dylusions for this card, and simply got messy ! I used a paintbrush to flick the inks on the paper (make sure everything around you is covered !) and then added the sentiment along with some brads, seam binding and a flower I cut on the cameo.
I hope to see you joining in over on the blog, there is also a design team call.
Head on over for more info, and don’t forget to check out the new range of stamps !

Embossing fun

Before i show you anything today I have a couple of crafting friends who are in the Philippines, I am hoping you & your families are safe and sound.
I am a huge lover of nature, and the weather is an amazing thing, but i think we quite often forget what mother nature is capable of, and it is sad that something so beautiful can take away people’s lifes & homes. I am sure everyone on my blogger list is keeping everyone in the Philippines in their thoughts, and those that aren’t can I please ask that you do x
_______________________________________________________
On to my make today, Now in my 15+ years of crafting one thing I have always loved is playing around with embossing powders/enamels etc, I was very lucky that hubby purchased me a meltpot recently…you can imagine..someone who loves embossing and a meltpot !
For those who haven’t tried embossing…what are you waiting for !!
My lovely friend Shary recently went to a craft fair and brought me back some goodies, including some lovely chipboard tags.
Before i show you the finished tag I wanted to share with you about using your embossing powders to change the colour of a embellishment, in this case a birdcage charm.
Now there is nothing wrong with this colour, but i want it match some of my other embellishments.
Take your item and you need to apply a layer of embossing ink..now I use Versamark, but there is lots of others on the market now, all work equally well.
Firstly please excuse my well loved ink pad.
I always use tweezers for this, and i always take the embellishment to the ink pad, make sure you push it well into the ink pad as you want the whole surface to have an even cover.
Then using your embossing powder of choice (and holding your item with tweezers) sprinkle  over your embossing powder, Making sure you have a piece of paper underneath to catch all the excess and allow you to decanter any unused powder back into your pot.
Now it doesn’t look too pretty at this stage, but it will 🙂 Now using your heat gun you need to heat your powder…PLEASE use tweezers & a heat proof mat, it will get extremely hot and will burn if you do not take precautions.
Once heated you can apply another coat if needed, but i find with finer detailed items another coat isn’t needed.
And there you go, a pretty copper birdcage 🙂
This technique can be applied to so many things, for my tags i used to on chipboard butterflies, but i have done it with so many different items, just remember to make sure the item can withstand high temperatures….so most plastic items i wouldn’t try this with. Of course if you have a Melt Pot you can also dip the items.
Now for the tag……
Really pleased with how it turned out, The “US” is a chipboard sticker that I didn’t like the colour of, so I dipped it with my Melt Pot, and then brushed over the letters using Creative Expressions Wax.
This picture shows the birdcage embellishment, the bottle cap was done using Gilding flakes, book page & Melt pot. The Rose I have added Gold wax to the edges, The florish is a fab stamp from Creative Expressions.
This one shows the height of the tag, the butterfly is a chipboard butterfly that i embossed using the earlier method. You can also see along the edge I have using Frantage.
The Embellishment in this was dipped in my Melt Pot along with the “US” Chipboard sticker, I mixed Copper & Gold UTEE to get this effect.

The butterfly is made using UTEE & a mould. The chicken wire “glass” was created using Clear UTEE in Melt Pot, and then  tipping over a rubber stamp. I then just broke the piece up.
So there you go, I hope I have inspired you too have a play around with your embossing materials, the possibilities really are endless…..And so much fun !
