Simon Saturday | 3 cards 1 hour

I cannot believe it is Saturday again already, but I also cannot  believe it is the last day of March…this year is certainly flying by.

Welcome to another Simon Saturday.

My card kit arrived this week so I thought Id do another “how many cards in one hour” and yep you guessed it, it was 3. That certainly seems to be the magic number so from now on I’m just going with 3 cards, 1 hour 🙂

Before I get onto the cards I wanted to share that Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog is having a Design Team call. These don’t come around often so i know a lot of you are going to be excited.

I have been on this design team for 18 months and love it, it can be hard work as the challenge often gets a lot of entries, but it is an amazing team to be part of and it really is like family. I encourage you all to apply for it.

You can find out more about the call by clicking the graphic below.

This months kit was another sell out and i’m not surprised, it included another large stamp set from Simon (I will link to all products below) along with 2 Distress Oxide Inks, One of the brand new Distress Ink Blending brushes, some Gina K foil, Lawn Fawn paper, Card stock and a fab stencil.

The butterflies in the stamp set are very stain glass like and i have seen lots of fab creations from people going along those lines.

For my first card I wanted to create using just a sentiment. I think sentiment only cards are often overlooked but the sentiment can work great as the focal point, especially if the font is as beautiful as this.

I did some ink smooshing with the Squeezed Lemonade Oxide ink and then stamped the Have a beautiful day sentiment, The strip of rainbow paper is from the papers included in the kit and to add some detailing I used one of Simon’s border dies and finished off with some SSS Rainbow Confetti.

The next card i am really not sure if i like, I heat embossed one of the butterflies and leaves onto some card stock and then painted them with Prima Metallic watercolours. Ive hardly used these and think i need to play around with them a bit more…the sheen is gorgeous on them, but i just don’t think they suit all cards.

I added some splatter and a die cut frame for detailing but otherwise kept this card pretty simple.

The last card I used the stencil, my first thought was foiling or embossing past but as i was getting very close to the hour mark i stuck with the two oxides that came with the kit.

I did some blending using the brush on the detailed butterflies and then for the more solid ones I just used the squeezed lemonade Oxide ink. I added the sentiment and some Glossy Accents, along with some ink dots which are on the stencil.

I know people are probably going to ask about the Brush and honestly i’m not sure, its a lot rougher than the Clarity Stencil brushes so for a softer looker they would still be my go to, but for smaller detailing such as the dots it was pretty good and i’d use it for that and i like that you can adjust the brush…more playing around needed I think.

So there you go, 3 cards 1 hour. Do you like this “challenge” if so I’m happy to continue doing it as one of my Simon Saturday Posts. Let me know in the comments.

  1. You are such a sweetie, Tracy–thank you! One of my favorite challenges was always the 90 minute HA scramble, so I’m totally impressed you can do 3 cards in 60 minutes! I actually like all of these (had my finger on the purchase button for the kit, but at the last minute kept my resolve not to buy kits) & you’ve showcased the kit beautifully! I’m especially drawn to the first card which reminds me I still have a little piece of rainbow stripe inspired by you so long ago! Wishing you & your hubby a lovely Easter–hugs, Greta

  2. Yayyy…I’ve found your blog and added you to my Feedly so I don’t miss any posts! Your three-in-an-hour cards (I often manage one card in three hours *grin) are absolutely lovely, filled with pretty Spring images (still snowing here…and currently -27C with wind chill! GAH!) and my favourites: butterflies and rainbows! Spirits brightened in seeing these gems!
